Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s Marghe and Her Mother at Tiburon International Film Festival 2020

Sat, 12/12/2020 - 14:00

Mohsen Makhmalbaf latest film "Marghe and Her Mother" shot in southern Italy, screens at Tiburon International Film Festival in the United States.
The Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) is an annual event, showcasing high-quality independent feature and short films from around the world. Traditionally TIFF is held in the estate of California during the month of April. This year, due to the pandemic, the 19th edition of the festival is taking place as a Virtual event in December.
Marghe and her Mother will be screened on December 12, at 8:00 PM on the festival Virtual Theatre.
Riffing nimbly on Pasolini's Arabian Nights, Mohsen Makhmalbaf startles and stuns with his Italian debut. Our protagonist is Claudia (Ylenia Galtieri), an unemployed single mother who gets caught in a maelstrom of whimsy and discontent as she searches for work in Southern Italy. But when this flat-broke twenty-something gets word of a potential acting gig with some local big wigs, things seem to finally be going her way - if only these supposedly wealthy producers weren't just two opportunists motivated by evidently salacious intentions…
"With a moral link to Italian neorealism, Makhmalbaf's empathetic lens continues its exploration of poverty and social issues through the eyes of a hilariously insolent girl, who shatters the illusion of love, religion and human dignity."
After a short disruption caused by the pandemic, earlier Marghe and Her Mother restarted its world tour by its European premiere at Locarno Film Festival.
After the screening at Tiburon International Film Festival, the film will continue to travel to other festivals across the United States in the new year.
